Hi, my name is Rachel and I’m an artist based in Tillamook, OR. I love working on creative projects of all kinds. When it comes to painting, I particularly enjoy the process of embellishing an existing surface - whether a building, wall, door or piece of furniture. I find that adding art to the spaces we inhabit and the objects we use every day can make us feel more at home, reinforce our sense of place, identity, and belonging, bring a smile to our faces, lift the spirits, and inspire us. Whatever art does for you, I would love to help you experience that more in your day-to-day life.
Big or small, commercial or residential, I approach each project I take on with the same goal in mind: design something beautiful, and paint it beautifully.
First and foremost, I focus on listening closely to my client to understand their vision, requirements and aesthetics, and take the creative time needed to deliver an outstanding finished product. I tend to work meticulously, with attention to detail, and only deem a project complete when both my client and I are completely satisfied with every aspect of its execution.
Each project is different and comes to me in a different way. Some clients have very specific requirements, and others, only a general direction. I enjoy them all and love the variety of my work.
Let's talk about your project! We can correspond over email, meet in person or chat over the phone to discuss your vision, as well as the location, scale and any other unique aspects of your project. If it feels like a good fit, and you want to move forward with the design process, I'll also gather exact dimensions, photos and other details that will help me provide accurate mockups and quotes.
Depending on your design ideas, I will create one or more mockups for you to see. I may use hand drawn sketches, hand painted elements, photos, or a combination of these to give an idea of composition, color, and style. We will discuss your reactions, and then I will incorporate any feedback into revisions as needed before agreeing on a final design.
As much as possible, I like to start with a surface that is clean, whole, and structurally sound. I spot clean by hand and ensure the surface is completely dry before taping off and priming with a suitable primer.
I can also make small additional preparations, such as patching nail holes or sanding a previously finished surface. However, I will typically ask that any significant repairs, pressure washing, or other unique preparations be handled separately before I begin working.
The fun part! I typically use acrylic or latex paint rated for either interior or exterior application, and apply using roller, brushes or other techniques. I may mix my own colors, or use premixed colors.
Depending on location and type of paint used, sealant coats may be needed to protect the work from water, hard use, and/or UV penetration. After the project is sealed, I’ll provide any last instructions and care tips and clean up the project site. Time to enjoy your painting!
My rate will depend on a number of factors, including design complexity, location, surface type, scale, whether I need to use a ladder or scaffolding, and travel requirements. I will determine the proposed rate after an initial consultation on your project. Typically projects will fall in the range of $15-$20 per sqft.
I am also open to informal trade agreements - if you have something in mind, feel free to ask and maybe we can work out a suitable trade.
